“My father will get ahead of me in everything, and will leave nothing great for me to do.” Which historical figure uttered these words?

This city was once the capital of 3 powerful empires. But archaeologists were surprised to discover that Vikings once lived too. It makes sense. After all they were mercenaries in the Byzantine army. Name the city.
Ever notice when most people speak of a regime they usually describe it as brutal? Some ordinary human being with a lust for power insists that the world was specifically created for them to rule it because a god or goddess told them so. This man was the first to build an empire. (NOTE: Sharp contrast. Abraham never lifted a finger to build an empire or become ruler, yet he is the father of many nations. God called him out of the land that Sargon bathed in blood building his empire.)
